Botanische Kleuren and Yarns for Textile Artisans
Who is Atelier fijnKNIT?
Atelier fijnKNIT is owned and operated by textile designer, Catherine van Laake. We offer a broad selection of natural dyes, non-toxic mordants, natural-fiber, and naturally dyed yarns that are designed for the discriminating and eco-conscious knitter, weaver, or textile hobbyist. Natural dyes, non-toxic mordants, eco-friendly and sustainable practices guide the complete dyeing process and selection of natural yarns for dyeing. We also offer a broad selection of commercial luxury yarns made from natural fibers such as merino, silk, cotton, and linen. We will be expanding our selection of these yarns, knitting needles, and textile tools when our new yarn shop opens in De Pinte, hopefully in the Fall 2012 but no later than February 2013. We are very happy to announce that we will be located on the main street, Baron de Gieylaan, in De Pinte, making access by train super easy. We have just posted our 2012 spring/summer workshop schedule to be given at the Salviapark address listed above under workshops. Please stay tuned for announcements in the coming weeks.
Why fijnKNIT?
Sounds like a combination of Dutch and English? Catherine van Laake enjoyed 30 years of textile training and practice in the US. Fascinated by the rich textile history of Flanders, they moved to Gent 4 years ago.
Atelier fijnKNIT offers natural dyes, dye auxillaries, 100% natural yarns and silk and cotton blank shawls for dyeing, 100% naturally dyed luxury yarns from silk, wool, linen, and mohair for knitting and weaving, and a selection of natural, fashionable, luxury yarns from selected Italian mills. We specialize in sourcing the highest quality natural, ecological and sustainable materials and products that are safe to use, safe for the environment that are meant to give you beautiful results. These products are intended to inspire you to allow the beauty of these natural materials to spring forth with your creativity in a modern world where artificiality is commonplace and the natural world has lost its prominent role in our lives. We are an artisan-owned textile business that has as it's main mission the goal to protect the traditional values of working with our hands, eyes, and hearts and to give back to the universe and each other our creative joy, passion, and love we have for this fantastic medium that nature affords us.
